Cigar Malt Reserve. The Dalmore — the original whisky designed specifically as a cigar pairing, matured in American white oak ex-bourbon casks then transferred to 10-year-old Matusalem sherry butts and finished in Cabernet Sauvignon wine barriques.

The Dalmore Cigar Malt was created in the 1990s as a direct response to the cigar boom — the first Scotch whisky explicitly designed to complement premium cigars rather than simply accompany them. The Matusalem sherry finish adds dried fruit sweetness that bridges the tobacco earth of premium cigars; the Cabernet Sauvignon barriques add tannin structure and dark fruit that extends through a long smoke.

The triple-cask progression (bourbon → sherry → wine) produces a richly layered Highland malt that is one of the few whisky expressions with a specific, designed food and smoke pairing philosophy built into its production.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the Cigar Malt specifically suited to cigar pairing?

The Matusalem sherry finish adds dried fruit sweetness that bridges premium cigar earth and tobacco; the Cabernet Sauvignon barriques add dark fruit and tannin structure that extends through the smoke. The triple-cask progression was designed with that pairing in mind.
