25 years at Yamazaki — Japan's oldest malt whisky distillery. The apex of the age-statement range. American white oak, Spanish sherry oak, and Mizunara Japanese oak in a rare limited edition presentation that represents Suntory's most mature and complex single malt expression.
The Yamazaki Distillery was established in 1923 by Shinjiro Torii at the confluence of three rivers south of Kyoto — chosen for its soft water and the misty microclimate produced by the surrounding mountains and bamboo groves. It is Japan's oldest malt whisky distillery and the birthplace of Japanese whisky as a commercial category. The 25 Year is the oldest age-statement expression in the permanent Yamazaki range and one of the rarest regularly produced single malts in the world.
At 25 years, the three-cask program — American white oak (vanilla, caramel, coconut), Spanish sherry oak (dried fruit, chocolate, dark spice), and the extraordinarily rare Mizunara Japanese oak (incense, sandalwood, coconut, taking 200 years to mature to barrel size) — has reached a depth of integration impossible at younger ages. The Mizunara component in particular requires decades to express its full aromatic complexity; at 25 years it is fully present in a way the 18 Year can only approximate. The rare limited edition presentation distinguishes this bottling from the standard 25 Year release.
