George Urquhart, or ‘Mr George’ as he was known, joined his father, John at the family business ninety years ago in 1933 and became a key advocate of single malt whisky at a time when most whisky went into blends. ‘The father of single malt’ as he’s been called, Mr George was a firm believer in the importance of guiding principles, passed down to future generations. The Third Edition in the Legacy range pays tribute to his beliefs and vision – and features whisky from our last ever cask from 1959.
Distilled on 15th October 1959 and spending its entire maturation in cask no. 3665, a first fill Sherry butt, this Third Edition of the Mr George Legacy Series was bottled on 2nd November 2022 at a remarkable cask strength of 56.5% ABV. This whisky is from Gordon & MacPhail’s last cask – from any distillery – from 1959.
